From Abandonment to New Beginnings: The Reality of Rescued Animals in Brazil
Abandonment of Dogs and Cats in Brazil: The Reality Behind the Numbers
Did you know that millions of dogs and cats live in abandonment in Brazil?
Behind every homeless animal, there is a story marked by neglect, lack of public policies, and a network of shelters and protectors who fight every day to offer a second chance.
According to data from animal protection NGOs, it is estimated that over 30 million animals are abandoned in the country — including both dogs and cats. The reasons vary: from unwanted litters to address changes, financial crises, or, sadly, pure neglect.
It’s estimated that over 30 million animals are living on the streets — a reflection of negligence, the lack of effective public policies, and often the impulsive, irresponsible actions of guardians who don’t consider the long-term commitment of adopting a pet. In times of economic crisis, this reality becomes even worse: struggling families abandon their companions because they can no longer afford food or basic care. The result? Overloaded shelters, NGOs operating with limited resources, and an increasing number of animals exposed to hunger, disease, and abuse.
AMAVOO was also born as a response to this urgency — to turn consumption into a tool for real and continuous impact.
Who helps these animals?
Most of them find temporary shelter with independent rescuers or NGOs that often work with very limited resources. There’s a shortage of food, medicine, infrastructure, emotional support for caregivers, and, most of all, visibility.
That’s why AMAVOO also exists as a bridge: we connect conscious consumption with animal protection. Part of the sales on our marketplace is donated to serious shelters and projects that truly make a difference in the rescue and care of lives.
